Hello, I’m Hannah

Emerging artist - Western Australia

Alongside creating art, I work also as a nurse, a role that has allowed me to witness many different sides of what it is to be human.

When I’m not working or creating, you’ll usually find me somewhere in nature. I feel most at home near the ocean, wandering through open spaces or surrounded by trees. Nature has a way of slowing everything down for me. It gives me room to think, feel and reconnect with myself.

I’ve always been fascinated by people. By how incredibly complicated we tend to be.

We can be strong and vulnerable at the same time. Certain one moment and completely lost the next. We can understand ourselves deeply in one area of life while remaining an absolute mystery to ourselves in another. I find all of that endlessly interesting.

You could say I’m spiritual, although I don’t follow a particular belief system and I definitely don’t claim to have the answers. In all honesty, I’m forever curious…

Curious about why we feel what we feel. Why certain experiences change us. Why we’re drawn towards some things and repelled by others. How our inner worlds shape the way we experience the outer one.

I especially love the places where science, spirituality, creativity and psychology bump into one another. I don’t necessarily need to know the answers. Sometimes the questions are enough.

Art has always been part of my life. I paint, draw and write. Although for a very long time I had absolutely no intention of showing anyone my work.

Years ago, for some reason, I found myself drawn to painting faces in ways I couldn’t really explain. I wasn’t quite sure what to make of them, so I kept them to myself…

The faces kept appearing.

As I moved through some of the more difficult and transformative periods of my own life, I began noticing that what I painted often reflected something I was feeling, questioning or trying to understand.

Painting became somewhere I could put the things I didn’t have words for.

Eventually, I showed a few pieces to people close to me. Their reactions surprised me. They weren’t necessarily seeing me, they were connecting with something within themselves! A feeling, a memory, a story, something they recognised but perhaps couldn’t quite explain.

That changed something for me! Slowly, I began sharing more. And strangely, the more of my art I shared, the more my own masks began falling away too.

It was exposing, but also freeing!

What had started as something deeply private eventually became ‘Creating the Fool’s Journey’

I don’t tell people what they’re supposed to see in my work. That would take away the magic.

I can tell you where a painting came from. I can share what was happening while I created it. But your experience belongs to you!

I think art can hold many stories. Some pieces speak loudly, while others sit quietly with us for a while. Sometimes we simply feel drawn to something long before we understand why.

If one of my pieces finds its way into your world, I hope you discover something of your own within it.

Thank you for spending some time in my little corner of the world

‘May you have the courage to embrace ‘The Fool’
